Jade Vine-The way to success!

Let there be rock.Sono proprio forti questi JADE VINE,band inglese dal sound moderno ed accattivante.
E hanno anche  una bella immagine;loro dicono"appropriata alla musica che facciamo",io invece sostengo con forza che sono cool,on fleek e dal forte impatto estetico(e un po' me ne intendo,dai,mastico moda e musica dai tempi delle guerre puniche..)
Insomma,il gruppo si presenta bene,grazie ad una musica che trae ispirazione da artisti di alta caratura(vedi Pink Floyd,Jeff Buckley,Radiohead etc etc)ma con quel twist personale,unico e vibrante che li rende una delle realtà piu' interessanti del panorama musicale internazionale del momento.
MIND OF A MAN è il loro secondo album,uscito un mese fa per l'etichetta Musicarchy Media:ça va sans dire,il cd  ha ricevuto già plausi e lodi da pubblico e critica,che apprezzano gli arrangiamenti e il sound(pazzeschi)e soprattutto i testi,mai banali,bensì introspettivi,intimi e profondi.

L'album MIND OF A MAN contiene tutti pezzi favolosi,diversi fra loro ma uniti da una passione viscerale che l'ascoltatore percepisce chiaramente;però vi devo assolutamente segnalare la mia canzone preferita,Corpus Callosum(no,non pensate al Dr.House,il significato trascende la pura e semplice anatomia umana), assolutamente fantastica(e ho scoperto che i ragazzi della band la pensano come me)

Io i ragazzi dei JADE VINE li ho intervistati e mi sono fatta raccontare un po' di cose su di loro e sulla loro musica;prima però fatemi spendere due parole sulla persona che ha scoperto(e messo sotto contratto)questi giovani e altre teste di serie del rock:Kiara Laetitia,fondatrice della label Musicarchy Media,vera talent scout(in pratica la Caterina Caselli del Metal)con il fiuto giusto per il talento(quello con la T maiuscola!)e una tenace passione per la musica(lei stessa è una delle cantanti rock più dotate in circolazione..)
Quindi ringrazio Kiara che mi ha fatto conoscere cavalli di razza come i Jade Vine e tutti i gli altri artisti della sua scuderia,ad maiora Lady!

Ciao ragazzi,la prima domanda è semplice:presentatevi al pubblico italiano.Quando e dove avete iniziato a suonare?

Constantine e Marios hanno suonato per un po' come duo prima che Babis si unisse nel 2008(anche se in realtà ci conoscevamo già da diverso tempo).Abbiamo presto realizzato di avere la stessa visione musicale;il resto è storia!

Il vostro nuovo album MIND OF A MAN(uscito lo scorso Febbraio)è semplicemente fantastico.Come lo descrivereste?

 Grazie mille,siamo contenti che ti piaccia!
Musicalmente MIND OF A MAN si puo' includere nell'ambito della musica rock.Le tracce sono molto diverse tra loro e l'unica cosa che le unisce è il sound che scaturisce quando suoniamo insieme.Non abbiamo un approccio formale alla musica,lasciamo che le canzoni si sviluppino liberamente da sole e in maniera indipendente dallo stile musicale più consono;per quanto riguarda i testi,ecco,diciamo che sono una palette di pensieri personali,emozioni ed esperienze di un uomo che lotta per elevarsi esistenzialmente .
In poche parole MIND OF A MAN è un album rock dai testi venati di contenuti esoterici e metafisici.
 E' un album dalle mille sfaccettature,gradevole non solo per chi ama il rock,ma piacevole  anche per una platea più vasta

Che tipo di musica ascoltate di solito ragazzi?Ci sono artisti che esercitano un certo fascino su di voi e il vostro sound?

 Ascoltiamo un sacco di band,artisti,stili che spesso non hanno niente in comune tra di loro!Andiamo dai Toto a Jack White,da Bonamassa agli Alice in Chains,passando per i Pink Floyd e Richie Kotzen!
 Non amiamo etichettare la musica che ascoltiamo (o facciamo),anche se c'è un terreno comune,che è il rock(senza escludere comunque altri stili)

Ogni cosa che uno ascolta si manifesta nella propria musica,in un modo o nell'altro.

Il più delle volte non ci rendiamo conto di una particolare influenza fino a quando qualcuno al di fuori  del gruppo non  ci fa notare la connessione.

Non proviamo a suonare scimmiottando altri artisti,pensiamo di avere creato un sound e un approccio musicale Jade Vine,unico ed esclusivo.

E' pero' inevitabile per chi ascolta collegare la tua musica con qualcosa che già si conosce.Ci sono state occasioni in cui alcuni fans ci hanno detto"Mi piace quella canzone,suona molto come"questa band)",band di cui ignoravamo l'esistenza!

MIND OF A MAN è il vostro secondo album.Che differenze ci sono tra la vostra ultima fatica e il primo cd "Nothing can hide from light"(pubblicato nel 2013)?Nel primo album avete collaborato con Daniel Cavenagh della band prog rock Anathema.Un grande onore suppongo.Che tipo di esperienza è stata?

 

MIND OF A MAN a livello musicale si avvicina ai nostri obiettivi iniziali.Nel primo album"Nothing can hide from light"eravamo ancora nella fase di sperimentazione e di ricerca del suono perfetto.Sentiamo che il nostro processo di scrittura è cambiato e maturato.C'è più varietà stilistica. Ci sono solo 8 tracce in Mind of a Man ma sono tutte diverse tra loro. L'unico fil rouge è il suono.

Siamo stati fortunati ad incontrare  Daniel. Mentre stavamo registrando l'album ci ha detto una cosa meravigliosa:che credeva nella nostra musica.E' stata una vera e propria iniezione di fiducia,perché fino a quel momento non avevamo una chiara idea in testa del valore del nostro sound,non sapevamo se fosse buono o una delusione totale!

 Gli piaceva il nostro materiale così com'era,non ha interferito in nessun modo per modificarlo!Era convinto che senza il suo tocco sarebbe stato ancora più originale e unico!
Ci ha fatto una grande pubblicità e ci ha aiutati a raggiungere un pubblico più ampio. E' stato magnifico lavorare con Lui!

 

La mia canzone preferita dell'album è Corpus Callosum,la trovo veramente una bomba! In medicina il corpus callosum è un fascio di fibre che connette gli emisferi destro e sinistro del cervello agevolando le connessioni tra le due parti.Qual è dunque il significato di questo pezzo?E che tipo di messaggio volete veicolare?

Corpus callosum è semplicemente un titolo simbolico.Rappresenta la connessione tra le parti opposte della nostra natura e il dualismo dell'esistenza. La canzone ci è stata ispirata dalla perdita di una persona a noi molto cara. Quell'evento ha scatenato in noi pensieri di vita e di morte, memorie di tristezza e felicità e sentimenti contraddittori di amore e dolore.La canzone descrive quei momenti che anticipano la separazione e il congedo dalla vita, le emozioni durante gli ultimi istanti. Corpus callosum esprime quei precisi momenti tra questi due mondi.Spero che tutto questo discorso abbia un senso!

I testi delle vostre canzoni sono particolarmente introspettivi,molto intimi.Il vostro vissuto e l'ambiente esterno hanno una qualche influenza sul processo che porta alla scrittura di una vostra canzone?

Le parole dei nostri pezzi sono molto importanti per noi.Sono sempre in qualche modo connessi con esperienze di vita vissuta.

Scriviamo in modo colloquiale,informale.Di solito si tratta di un dialogo tra due persone.Chi siano quelle persone tocca all'ascoltatore deciderlo.Ci sono cose che vogliamo esprimere tramite i nostri testi,sentimenti che ci sentiamo di condividere e anche qualcosa che ci piacerebbe sentirci dire dagli altri.

Cerchiamo di non rendere il soggetto  troppo ovvio perché vorremmo che chi  ascolta il pezzo facesse sue quelle parole,in maniera personale.

Nel secondo album ci sono piu' influenze autobiografiche rispetto al nostro precedente lavoro. Ci sono stati parecchi cambiamenti,sia felici che tristi.     

 Abitate a Londra ma siete di origine greca.Che rapporti avete con il vostro paese di origine?Vi capita di ritornare qualche volta in Grecia per assorbire nuovi impulsi artistici?

Abbiamo tutti famiglia e amici in Grecia e andiamo a trovarli almeno una volta all'anno!Quindi sì,direi che manteniamo uno stretto legame con il nostro paese di origine!Per quanto riguarda la seconda parte della domanda,sono convinto che un musicista assorba impulsi in qualunque parte del mondo!Per noi si tratta solo di farci una vacanza,rivedere i nosti cari e gli amici più stretti,non tanto di recepire input artistici

 Avete un look accattivante,pieno di appeal.Secondo voi quanto è importante il giusto outfit per un artista?Musica cool unita ad una immagine cool è il binomio perfetto:siete d'accordo?

Grazie di nuovo!Pensiamo che l'outfit di un artista debba stare bene con la musica che lo rappresenta.Fortunatamente la nostra musica è  semplice e rispecchia in maniera perfetta ciò che siamo,quindi non dobbiamo affannarci troppo a pensare come presentarci.La nostra immagine ci fa sentire a nostro agio,in maniera naturale.Certo,se un artista fa musica pop,o si esibisce in show roboanti dai mille effetti speciali,ovviamente è richiesto un altro tipo di look.

Insomma, una musica cool abbinata ad un'immagine appropriata è decisamente una grande accoppiata!

Ultima domanda:che progetti avete per il futuro?Vi aspetta un tour promozionale in giro per l'Europa?Spero di incontrarvi presto qui in Italia!

 

 Sì,presto andremo in tour,;gireremo la Gran Bretagna e probabilmente altri paesi d'Europa.Ci piacerebbe molto venire anche in Italia!L'Italia ha uno dei pubblici migliori del mondo e non vediamo l'ora di godercelo dal vivo!

Let there be rock.I really like this british band called JADE VINE:they have a modern and captivating sound.
They also have a cool image,absolutely fascinating; they say "appropriate for the music we make,"but I  strongly affirm that are dope, on fleek and have a strong appeal

In short, the group is the next great thing of music biz thanks to a music that draws inspiration from brilliant artists (such as Pink Floyd, Jeff Buckley, Radiohead etc etc) mixed up with a personal,unique and vibrant twist

MIND OF A MAN is their second album, released last February for the label Musicarchy Media.

  I'm glad to say that the CD has already received  praises from the public and critics who appreciate the smashing arrangements,the epic sound and-of course- the  introspective and soulful lyrics.

1-Hi guys!Would you like to introduce yourself to the Italian audience?Where and when did you start playing as a band?

Constantine and Marios were playing as a duo for a while before Babis  joined the band in 2008 in London, even though we knew each other for some years before that!! We soon realised that we had some common musical interests and the rest is history!

 

2-Your brand new album is out since last February.Its name is "Mind of a man" and it's simply amazing!How would you describe it?

 Thank you very much, we are really glad you like it!

Musically the album can be placed in the general spectrum of Rock music. The songs are very different to each other and the only thing that holds them together is the sound that we generate when we play together. We try not to approach the songs stylistically at first, we tend to let the songs develop freely and almost independently from what a particular style of music might require. Lyrically this album is a palate of personal thoughts, emotions and experiences of a man who is striving for his existential elevation.

In a few words Mind of A Man is rock album with a quite esoteric lyrical content. We also think that is a very diverse album and might appeal to a wider audience rather than just those who like rock music.

3-What kind of music do you usually listen to guys?Are there artists which have a certain appeal on  your work?

We do listen to a wide variety of different styles/ bands/ artists that quite often are not so related to each other. We like from Toto to Jack White and from Bonamassa to Alice in Chains, Pink Floyd to Richie Kotzen! We do not like categorising the music we listen or make but there is a general “Rock” common ground (not to exclude other styles though).  

Everything one listens to ‘appears’ in his/her own music one way or another. Most of the times we do not realise an influence ourselves till someone outside the band mentions the connection. We do try not to sound like other bands/ artists and we do think that we have established a ‘Jade Vine’ sound and musical approach. It is inevitable though for a listener not to relate your music with what s/he already knows. There’s been occasions where fans said to us “I like that song it sounds a lot like ‘this’ band”, a band we never heard of!

4-"Mind of a man" is your second cd.What about the differences between it and your debut  album  "Nothing can hide from light"(released in 2013)?For your first album you teamed up with Daniel Cavenagh from the prog rock band Anathema.Such a big honor,i suppose.What kind of experience has it been?

“Mind of a man” as a sound is closer to what we aimed as a band from the beginning. In the first album, "Nothing can hide from light", we were still experimenting with the sound we were looking for. We feel that the song writing has changed and matured. There is also a lot more stylistic variety. There are only 8 songs in “Mind of a man” but they are completely different to each other. The only thing that binds them together is our sound .

We were lucky to meet and team up with Daniel Cavanagh. He did a great thing for us while making the album which was to tell us that he believes in our music. That really boost our confidence as a band as we did not have a clear idea till then if our music is good or we are completely delusional!

Song-writing wise he did not interfere because he did like the material the way it was and he believed it would be more original without his touch. He did put as ‘on the map’ and helped us approach a bigger audience. It was great working with Daniel.    

5-My favorite track from "Mind of a man" is Corpus Callosum:i find it awesome!Corpus callosum is a bundle of fibers that connects the left and right cerebral hemispheres helping communication between the two parts.So,guys,what does this song mean,and what sort of message you want to convey?

Thank you! We love this song as well!

Corpus callosum is a symbolic title. It symbolises the connection between the opposite sides of our nature and the duality of our existence. The song was inspired initially by the loss of a person very close to us. That event triggered thoughts of life and death, memories of happiness and sadness and contradictory emotions of love and pain. The song describes those moments of the anticipating separation and the departure from life to death, the feelings of the characters on both sides during those last moments. Corpus callosum symbolises those moments between these two worlds. We hope that all this makes sense!

6-The lyrics of your songs are particularly introspective,related to inner thoughts.Did autobiographical experiences and social environment influence your writing/creative process?

The lyrics in our songs are very important to us. They are always somehow connected with our experiences. We do write in a ‘conversational way’. There is usually a dialogue between two persons. Who are they it is up to the listener to decide. There are things we want to express through our lyrics, feelings we would like to share and even something we would like to hear from others telling us. We try not to make the subject of a song too obvious because we would like the listener to relate to it in his/ her own way. In our second album there is a lot more autobiographical influence to our lyrics as in the last few years there has been quite a few changes both happy and sad.      

7-You live in London but you have Greek origins .What kind of relationship do you have with your native land?Do you sometimes go to Greece to absorb new artistic impulses?

 We all have family and friends back in Greece and we visit at least once a year! So you can say that we keep a close relationship with our native land! As for the second half of your question, I believe that a musician absorbs new impulses no matter where he is! For us is more like going back to see family, friends and have a holiday and not so much to absorb impulses!

8-You have a charming,captivating,appealing look.In your opinion how important is the right outfit for an artist?Cool music plus cool image is the perfect match:do you agree?

Thank you again! We just think that the outfit of an artist has just to match the music that he/she represents. Luckily for us, our music is so simple and so in tune with us that the we did not have to think hard of how to represent it. Image wise we tend to follow what comes naturally to us and makes us feel comfortable with who we are. If ones music is cool pop though, or some sort of a flashy show then a different image is required. We would say cool music with the appropriate image is definitely a great match! 

9-A last question:tell me about your plans for the future.Will you go touring?Hope to meet you here in Italy!

We definitely will tour in the U.K and probably other places in Europe and off course we would love to come to Italy as well! Italy has one of the best audiences in the world and we would love to take a taste of that!
